Anthony P. Viglio Obituary

BOARDMAN - Anthony P. “Tony” Viglio, 57, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2018, at The Cleveland Clinic, with his family by his side after a lengthy illness.

Anthony was born June 3, 1961, in Youngstown, a son of Mike and Dolores Bucik Viglio, and was a lifelong area resident.

Tony was a 1979 graduate of Ursuline High School, where he played football and was on the track team for all four of his years at school. He later earned a B.S. degree and a Masters Degree in mechanical engineering from Youngstown State University, and worked as an engineer for Legacy Measurements in Brookfield.

Tony was an active member of St. Christine Parish in Youngstown, where he was the former chairman of the popular annual parish festival for 10 years. Tony previously coached the school’s 7th and 8th grade girls’ basketball team, and he and his wife, Marie, were past-judges of the St. Christine Science Fair for many years. He was also a former judge with the State Science Fair, and formerly coached the JV boys’ basketball team at Mineral Ridge High School.

Tony loved golf and duck hunting, and was a huge fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes. He also had a heart of gold, and if anyone needed anything, Tony would help in any way possible, including giving “the shirt off his back.” A man of many talents, he possessed incredible carpentry skills and was awesome in the kitchen as a cook. He also loved the time spent with his family and friends.

His beloved wife of 25 years, Marie T. Streeky Viglio, whom he married July 16, 1983, passed away May 8, 2009.

Tony leaves his daughter, Marissa E. Viglio of Las Vegas; his mother, Dolores Ponzi of Youngstown; five brothers, Michael (Donna) Viglio of Youngstown, Bob Viglio of Youngstown, Ken (Doug Jenkins) Viglio of Fort Lauderdale, Tim (Shanay) Ponzi of Ellsworth, and Larry (Tina) Ponzi of Toledo; his fiancee, Mary Bartos, and Mary’s daughter, Sierra Snyder, both of Austintown; his in-laws, Jenny (Dave) Ditzler of Austintown, Ellie (Greg) Cerimele, Jerry (Christine) Streeky, and Jim (Marcia) Streeky; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
