YOUNGSTOWN – Anna M. Koval Potocnak, 75, of the city’s westside, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 26, 2019, at The Woodlands at AustinWoods following a brief illness.

Anna, who was also known to many as “Anka” “Annie” and “Ann,” was born June 26, 1943, in Gates, Pa., a daughter of the late Joseph S. and Anna M. Spirnak Koval, and came to this area from Pennsylvania in 1956.

She was a 1961 graduate of Chaney High School and in her younger days was an office worker for Ambriolla’s and White Cross Drugs.

Mrs. Potocnak was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown, where she belonged to the Ladies’ Guild. She also enjoyed attending services at the Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted on South Belle Vista Avenue, near her home.

Ann enjoyed fishing and feeding the birds, and scratching off lottery tickets while sipping a gin & tonic. She loved flower gardening, and was also a sports fan and an avid follower of the Cleveland Browns and Indians.

Ann leaves her husband of 50 years, Michael R. Potocnak, whom she married Aug. 17, 1968; a brother, John Koval and his wife, Denny, of San Antonio; three sisters-in-law, Bobbie Matteucci of North Lima, Dorothy Potocnak of Youngstown, and Margaret Ong of Youngstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Andrew and Joseph Koval, and a sister, Margaret Koval, are deceased.
