Zetta M. Saunders

AUSTINTOWN - Zetta M. Saunders, 70, passed away late Thursday evening, Jan. 26, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown following a brief illness.

Zetta was born March 15, 1946, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Dallas and Margaret Weimer Guilinger, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a graduate of Chaney High School and earned a bachelors degree in criminal justice from Youngstown University. Zetta worked for Mahoning County as a probation officer at the Juvenile Justice Center, and then worked for Easter Seals Adult Day Care Center as an Activity Director for 18 years, retiring in 2008.
    
Mrs. Saunders was a member of Venture Church (formerly known as the Idaho Road Alliance Church) in Austintown. She was the church organist for many years, and subsequently taught piano to many students. Zetta was also a member, officer, and music director with the Youngstown Women’s Connection.

She enjoyed music, puzzles, reading, painting ceramics, and sewing. 
    
Zetta leaves her daughter, Meghan (Jim) DeGregory of Girard; her son, Dallas (Tina) Saunders of Austintown; and four grandsons, Alexander, Austin, Nicholas, and Brayden.

Her husband, Joseph Leo Saunders, whom she married in 1972, passed away in 1999.
    
Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Venture Church, 250 Idaho Road, Austintown, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.

Arrangements were entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Venture Church in Zetta’s name.

Interment will take place at a later date at Girard Union Cemetery.
