YOUNGSTOWN – William K. Cupan Sr., 81, formerly of McDonald, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Danridge’s Burgundi Manor.

William was born Sept. 26, 1934, in McDonald, son of the late Andrew and Faye Greathouse Cupan, and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Cupan was a graduate of McDonald High School and later attended ETI Technical College where he earned a degree in drafting. 

William worked all his life in the aluminum industry as a design engineer, and was most recently employed by Northern States Metals until he retired in 2004.

Bill was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald.

He was an avid golfer and bowler, and he liked golfing locally at the Mahoning Country Club and bowling at Kay Lanes. Bill also greatly enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His wife of nearly 47 years, Janet Evelyn Maiorana Cupan, whom he married Oct. 1, 1955, passed away Aug. 19, 2002.

Mr. Cupan leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Toni (Laura) Cupan of Boardman and Lynn Cupan of Phoenix, Ariz.; a son, William (Carole) Cupan Jr. of Strasburg, Va.; three grandchildren, William Cupan of McDonald, Jason Cupan of Girard, and Steven Cupan of Strasburg; five great-grandchildren, Will, Andrew, Jason, Zackary, and Matthew Cupan; three sisters, Dorothy Frederick of Niles, Shirley Griffiths of Youngstown, and Patricia (Dave) Ciolli of McDonald; and a brother, Andy (Karyn) Cupan of McDonald.

Besides his wife, five brothers, Robert Cupan, Joe Cupan, Mike Cupan, Donald Cupan, and Gary Cupan, and a great-grandson, Anthony Michael Cupan, preceded him in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Kinnick Funeral Home, McClurkin Memorial Chapel, 222 S. State St., Girard.

Family and friends may also call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, at the funeral home, where funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, where Bill will be laid to rest next to his wife.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Cupan’s family suggests memorial contributions be made in his name to Senior Independence Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Road, Canfield, OH 44406.
