YOUNGSTOWN - Victor Ugran Sr., 94, passed away early Friday morning, June 24, 2016, at Omni Manor after a long and fulfilling life.

Victor was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Youngstown, a son of the late Peter and Irma Tancer Ugran, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1940 graduate of The Rayen School and earned a bachelors degree from Youngstown College. Victor was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in North Africa with the Military Police from 1943 to 1945. 

He worked as an elementary school teacher in both the Girard and Warren City School systems for 38 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. Ugran also worked for the United States Postal Service part-time, as a postal clerk in the main post office in Youngstown for 25 years, retiring in 1971.

He was a member of St. Brendan Church in Youngstown, and was a 50-year member of the Croatian Fraternal Union. He enjoyed gardening, camping with his family, and fishing with his sons, and he and his wife were very proud to have traveled through each of the country’s 50 states.

Mr. Ugran leaves his wife of 70 years, Katherine Markovich Ugran whom he married Jan 19, 1946. Two sons, Victor Ugran Jr. (Janis) of Boardman and Joseph (Claudine) Ugran of Austintown; a daughter, Kathleen (Richard) Antonucci of Austintown; two sisters, Rose Simion of Canfield and Valeria Hollis of Florida; six grandchildren, Victor Scott Ugran, Rebecca Foltz, Richard and Robert Antonucci, Lisa Pacconi, and Kimberly Ugran; and nine great-grandchildren.

Four brothers, Peter, Dan, Leo, and Vasile Ugran, and two sisters Mary Capacia and Anne Petretich, preceded Victor in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, June 27, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan Church, 2800 Oakwood Ave., Youngstown.

Interment will take place at Tod Homestead Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Victor’s name to the Croatian Fraternal Union Scholarship Foundation, 100 Delaney Drive, Pittsburgh, PA. 15235.
