POLAND - Thomas Pierson, 82, passed away late Wednesday evening, Oct. 25, 2017, at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Pierson was born Sept. 2, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Elizabeth Flood Pierson, and was a lifelong area resident.

Tom was a 1953 graduate of Ursuline High, and joined the U.S. Navy that summer, where he was a medic.

After serving in the military, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and later went to college, graduating from Youngstown State University in 1969. He subsequently worked for Mahoning County Career & Technical School in Canfield as a Special Education Coordinator, retiring in 1995. After retirement, he worked part-time for the Ohio Department of Education.

He was a member of St. Charles Church in Boardman. Tom enjoyed gardening, landscaping, watching football, especially Notre Dame, and he loved the time he spent with his family.

Mr. Pierson is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Ann Kadlubowski Pierson, whom he married Aug. 31, 1963, in St. Stanislaus Church; his children, Laura (Scott) Lyon of Cleveland, Alex (Cindy) Pierson of Poland, and Julie (William) Mills of Florida; grandchildren, Ethan, Sarah, and Abigail Lyon, and Katie, William, and Thomas Mills; a sister-in-law, Margaret Pierson; and many nieces and nephews.

A son, Matthew; an infant daughter, Tricia; and a brother John “Jack” Pierson, preceded Tom in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, at St. Charles Church, where family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior.

Committal services with military honors will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Tom’s family thanks the staff at Shepherd of the Valley, and the staff with Hospice of the Valley, for the kindness shown and care given to Tom and his family during his last days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512; or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
