Sophie was born July 18, 1929, a daughter of Polish immigrants, and a lifetime Youngstown resident prior to her recent move to Hubbard.

After attending grade school at St. Casimir School and graduating from Rayen High School, she performed clerical work until becoming a loving wife and homemaker, who dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family. Sophie married Frank J. Hoffman, Sr. on November 15, 1952. The couple were the proud parents of eight children.

She was a parishioner of St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.

As a member of the former St. Casimir Church in Youngstown, she belonged to and volunteered with the Altar & Rosary Society, the St. Casey Club, bingo, and presently the St. Casimir Society, among other organizations.

Sophie lived her life by the strong belief, "The Power of Prayer," which she would say to everyone. She will always be remembered as a patient, kind, gentle and generous person.

Sophie leaves her precious children, Victoria (Raymond) McNeeley, Jr. of Hubbard, Susan (Andrew) Petiya of Boardman, Theresa (David) Pulice of Springfield, Va., Michael (Kellie) Hoffman of Tampa, Fla., twins, Daniel (Carmen) Hoffman of Antioch, Calif. and Donald (Kathy) Hoffman of San Antonio, Texas, and Margie (Dean) Rohan of Burbank, Calif.

She leaves a sister, Mary Ann Poczatek of Youngstown and a sister-in-law, Virginia Walters of Austintown.

Sophie leaves her "precious angels,” grandchildren, Amanda (Corey), Rick (Jessica), David, Sean (Lindsey), Michael (Rachel), Jonathan, Julian, Rachel (Jacob), Sara, Marissa, Aubrianna, Emily, Justin, Kim, and Kelly; and “precious angels,” great-grandchildren, Malana, Ariana, Dominic, Demetri, Sariah, Eliana, Josiah, Connor, Kayleigh, Emilee, Madison, Sydney, and Allie.

Family and friends may gather from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, April 29, at the Brier Hill Cultural Center (the former St. Casimir Church), 145 Jefferson St. Youngstown. A procession will leave the Cultural Center at 1 p.m., en route to St. Columba Cathedral, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m.

Interment will follow funeral services at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Sophie will be laid to rest next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, Masses in her honor would be appreciated.

Mom, we will “Love You Forever.”
