Roger W. Nitzsky
July 22, 1936 ~ September 17, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years OldGIRARD - Roger W. Nitzsky, 81, passed away Sunday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2017, at Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.
Roger was born July 22, 1936, in Youngstown, a son of the late Howard and Helen Murdock Nitzsky, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1955 graduate of Girard High School and was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran.
Mr. Nitzsky worked for International Mill Service for over 30 years, retiring in 1998.
Roger was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard.
He loved to play bingo and did so at many venues. An outgoing and truly loveable man, he made many friends wherever he went. Roger enjoyed spending time with his family, and his grandchildren were his greatest joy in the world.
Mr. Nitzsky leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 26 years, Gloria Albanese Nitzsky, whom he married Dec. 8, 1990; four children, Jeffrey (Eileen) Nitzsky of Girard, Randy Dandy of Las Vegas, Jill Applebee of Ashtabula, and Gary (Jamie) Nitzsky of North Carolina; a stepson, Paul (fiancee Theresa) Wilson of Poland; 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey “J.R.” Nitzsky Jr., Raymond Nitzsky, Jenna Applebee, Ryan Applebee, Mike Nitzsky, Mark Nitzsky, Mitchell Nitzsky, Matthew Nitzsky, Stephen Safrit, Marshall Safrit, and Shane Wilson; three great-grandchildren, Grayson, Lillian Rose, and Tyler; a half-brother, Frank Murdock of Michigan; his favorite (and only) sister-in-law, Mary (Danny) Russo of Farrell, Pa.; a nephew, Jimmy (Rhonda) Nitzsky of Canfield; and many extended family members and friends, including his best friend and confidant, Tom Ezzo of Girard.
Roger will be truly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A brother, Clarence Nitzsky, and three half-brothers, Howard, Clyde, and Duke Nitzsky, preceded Roger in death.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, at the funeral home and will continue with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., Girard.
A committal service with military honors will follow at Girard City Cemetery.
Roger’s family would like to thank the staff of Hospice House for their compassionate care and the kindness shown to Roger and his family during his stay there.
