YOUNGSTOWN - Robert E. Bischoff, 76, of the city’s west side, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, April 6, 2016, at his home from complications of COPD.

Robert was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Beaver County, Pa., a son of the late Wilbur J. and Faye Warner Bischoff.

Mr. Bischoff was a 1958 graduate of Beaver Falls High School in Pennsylvania, and was a 1983 graduate of Condie College in California. Bob served for four years in the U.S. Army Reserves, and was honorably discharged in 1965.

Bob worked various jobs over the years, from assistant manager of Leonard’s Auto Parts, to B&W Steel in Beaver Falls, to Vicom in California, where he worked as a field service engineer covering the southern states. In 1991, he contracted with G.E. Computer Equipment in Israel, where he was able to tour the country, even riding a camel.

In the twilight days of his life, he was presented by his neighbors with a second-place award for the “Wilkinson Avenue Riding Lawn Mower World Nationals.” The “race” was held in 2010 and 2012, and he was surprised and happy with the award, and his family made sure he could view the award all of the time.

Bob was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene in Austintown, and was a member of AARP and of PER, Inc., Chapter 18.

Bob leaves his wife of nearly 33 years, Frances Hornyak Bischoff, whom he married May 6, 1983; his son, Ronald Bischoff of Boardman; two stepsons, Ken (Angela) Downey of Cerritos, Calif. and Dan Downey of Youngstown; a stepdaughter, Laura (John) Saleh of San Jose, Calif.; three brothers, Richard (Betty) Bischoff of Beaver Falls, Paul (Pat) Bischoff of Beaver Falls, and Jim (Carol) Bischoff of Holiday, Fla.; three sisters, Shirley (Jim) Campbell of New Brighton, Pa., Esther (Bob) Bally of Elsah, Ill., and Ruth (Rick) Osman of Greer, South Carolina; and three grandsons.

Two brothers, Donald and Wilbur Bischoff, and two sisters, Margaret Boggs and Karen Osman, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 10, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, April 11, at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Burns of the Grace Church of the Nazarene officiating.

Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Church of the Nazarene,  5253 W. Webb Rd., Youngstown, OH 44515.
