GIRARD – Paul Joseph Maholtz Jr., 73, passed away Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at his home following a sudden illness.

Paul was born April 14, 1944, in Youngstown, the son of the late Paul J. Sr. and Marjorie Duffy Maholtz, and was a graduate of Ursuline High School.

Following high school, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and was stationed in San Diego, Calif. He served two combat tours in Vietnam, earning numerous medals for valor.

Returning home, Paul completed an apprenticeship with Carpenters & Joiners Union No. 171 in Youngstown. Paul worked as a journeyman carpenter throughout his work life, and was the owner of Sun Construction Company.

He was a Cub Master for St. Edward Church in Youngstown, and he was a loyal Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan. He also enjoyed fishing with his son and grandsons.

Paul attended St. Rose Church in Girard.

Paul was a loving father, grandfather, and good friend to former spouse Sylvia Maholtz of Niles; his son, Paul J. (Patricia) Maholtz III of Mooresville, North Car.; grandchildren, Hunter A Maholtz, Maddox "Max" A. Maholtz of Mooresville, Noah J. (Cindy) Lopez of McAllen, Texas, Bianca C. (Aaron) McDowell of Clarksville, Tenn.; and a great-granddaughter, Ella C. McDowell of Clarksville. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Esposito of Warren; two brothers, Charles (Monica) Maholtz of Poland and Michael (Elaine) Maholtz of Ellenton, Fla.; a sister-in-law Nancy Maholtz of East Palestine; eight nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Maholtz; a brother, John P. Maholtz; and a brother-in-law, Guy M. Esposito.

Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St, in Girard, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.

Paul's family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Rose Church in his name.

Arrangements were entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Girard.
