AUSTINTOWN - Norman G. Audi, 76, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, Dec. 1, 2016, with his family at his side, at Hospice House.

Norman, who was known to all as “Norm,” and to many as “Stormin’ Norman,” was born Aug. 17, 1940, in Johnstown, Pa., and was the son of the late William and Rose Alberts Audi.

Norm was a 1958 graduate of Johnstown High School, where he excelled in football as a tackle, and was part of the team that won the state championship in his senior year. He went on to play college football for the University of Arizona, where he met and eventually married his wife, Pat Campbell.

Mr. Audi came to this area in 1966 to attend Youngstown State University, and worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Campbell Works, in the No. 1 Seamless Hot Mill. He worked at the mill for 18 ½ years, retiring as a production foreman when the mill closed. Most recently, Norm owned and operated Audi Distributors in the 1980s and 90s.

He immensely enjoyed playing cards with his friends, especially pinochle, and was an avid Ohio State University football fan during the Jim Tressel coaching era. During games, Norm worked as a public relations man with his son-in-law in the tailgate lot, and he enjoyed organizing and socializing with those in attendance. Notably, he never missed an OSU home game during this time, and recorded a streak of 80 straight games attended.

Norm loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and he enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events and dance recitals. He loved his daughter-in-law’s cooking, and will always be remembered for his smile and “bigger than life” personality. Norm will be truly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Audi leaves his wife of 55 years, Patricia J. Campbell Audi; his son, Michael R. (Janet) Audi of Poland, Ohio; his daughter, Kim (David) Wickham of Westerville; four grandchildren, Michael W. Audi, a student at YSU, Madison L. Wickham, a student at Ohio University in Athens, Anthony J. Audi, also a student at Ohio University in Athens, and Jessica M. Wickham of Westerville; and a brother, David (Carolyn) Audi of Colorado.

A brother, William Audi, passed away in September of this year.

Family and friends may gather to celebrate Norm’s life from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a memorial service will take place at 6:30 p.m.
