Mildred Katherine "Terry" Mullins

AUSTINTOWN - Mildred Katherine “Terry” Mullins, 89, formerly of Youngstown and Boardman, passed away early Thursday morning, Aug. 18, 2016, at Hospice House.

Mildred was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Sioux City, Iowa, the only child of Erick A. and Marie Vojneld Hedin, who had immigrated from Sweden and Norway, respectively. “Terry,” as she was known by family and friends, married James Blair Mullins on Apr. 4, 1950, in St. Paul, Minnesota. They met while both were employed at a hospital there.

With their children, the couple moved to Ohio in the 1960s and became longtime members of St. Dominic Church on Youngstown’s south side. Terry was active as both a homemaker of a household with eight children, and in youth activities, such as being a Cub Scout Den Mother.

Retiring as a nurse’s aide in 1992 from a local hospital, she also worked for Gorant Candies.

Terry loved to crochet quilts and other items, and did so into her 80s. In addition, she enjoyed collecting angel figurines and was an avid reader. Most of all she was loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving her are a daughter, Patricia Glacken of Austintown, whom she lived with in Boardman until June of 2015; sons, David (Ruth) of Austintown, with whom she made her home for the past year, John (Jane) of San Francisco, Dr. Paul (Dr. Deborah Whitfield) of Grove City, Pa., Timothy (Danielle) of Struthers, Michael (Lynne) of Boardman, and Thomas (Kathy King) of Sharon, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Her husband passed away Jan. 3, 1979. Terry was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Bailey, who passed away in December of 2005.

Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 22, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N Meridian Rd., in Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 2 p.m.

Committal services will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Terry will be laid to rest next to her husband. 

Terry’s family suggests memorial contributions take the form of donations to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.
