McDONALD- Mathew G. Luknis Jr., 81, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mathew was born Feb. 18, 1934, in McDonald the son of the late Mathew Sr. and Emma Wishak Luknis, and was a lifelong resident of McDonald.

He was a 1952 graduate of McDonald High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, serving a four-year tour of duty.

Mr. Luknis worked as a pipefitter at RMI Titanium for 35 years, retiring in 1996 and was very active with the union during his career.

He was member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald.

Mathew could fix or build anything. He loved to fish and listen to Johnny Cash and he greatly enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.

Mathew leaves to cherish his memory his wife of nearly 62 years, Lucille Maxwell Luknis, whom he married Feb. 6, 1954; a daughter, Karen Luknis of Key West, Fla.; a son, Larry (Mary Beth) Little of Columbia, Md.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delores (Bob) McCale of McDonald and Loretta (Don) Sampson of Niles; and a brother, Donald (Rose Ann) Luknis of McDonald.

Mr. Luknis will be truly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A daughter, Debra Suzanne Hild, passed away Dec. 26, 2013.

Family and friends may call from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5, at Kinnick Funeral Home McClurkin Memorial Chapel, 222 S. State St., Girard, where funeral services will take place at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown.

In lieu of flowers, Mathew’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY  10001.
