Mary R. Scott

NEW MIDDLETOWN - Mary R. Scott, 83, formerly of Boardman, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Jan. 20, 2016, at Hospice House.

Mary was born Dec. 9, 1932, in Youngstown, the youngest of six children born to the late Edward and Mary Altwies Sturm, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1951 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, and held many jobs in her lifetime. Being the head bookkeeper at Lustig’s Shoes and a clerk at the Mahoning County Public Library, were two jobs she had that stood out above all. 

Mary was kind, generous, plucky, and fun-loving. She was fond of travel, gardening, reading mysteries and doing puzzles.

Family mattered most to her, especially her daughter and her beloved grandchildren, whom she adored. 

Mary was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown, where she enjoyed pinching pierogies with the other members.

She leaves behind a daughter, Christine M. Scott, of Wexford, Pennsylvania, and three grandchildren, Kelsey M. Davis of Youngstown, and Magnus M. and Rowan C. Geisler, both of Wexford.

Two brothers, Joseph Sturm and Edward Sturm, Jr., and three sisters, Margaret Cox, Dorothy Reese, and Edna Adair, preceded her in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 North Meridian Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will follow at 7 p.m.

Interment will follow at a later date.
