PORTLAND, CONN. - Julia Pierko, 91, formerly of Canfield, passed away peacefully late Tuesday morning, Sept. 12, 2017, at Portland Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Julia was born July 14, 1926, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Wasyl and Anna Macynski Macynski, and lived in this area for much of her life until moving to Connecticut with her husband to be closer to family.

Mrs. Pierko was a graduate of Scienceville High School (North High School) in Youngstown, and had worked as an office worker for Abram’s. She also worked for Kroger and A&P as a cashier, and for Cottage Creamery Dairy.

Julia was a member of St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church in Austintown, where she was an active volunteer at the parish and with the church’s bereavement lunches. She was also a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Youth League and of UNA Branch No. 230.

Julia leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Gary S. and Brenda Pierko of East Hampton, Conn.; and two grandsons, Luke William Pierko and Matthew Thomas Pierko.

Mrs. Pierko’s beloved husband of 52 years, William Pierko, whom she married May 18, 1963, passed away Aug. 31, 2015. Besides her husband, Julia was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Hritz and Mary Suhar, and by two brothers, John and Frank Macynski.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a prayer service will take place at 6:45 p.m.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the funeral home, and will continue at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, on the northeast corner of Kirk and Raccoon Roads in Austintown.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, where Julia will be laid to rest next to her husband.
