YOUNGSTOWN - Jose L. DeJesus, 87, passed away Friday evening, June 9, 2017, at Omni Manor Care Center.
Jose, who was known affectionately to his large family as “Papi,” was born May 22, 1930, in Puerto Rico, a son of the late Jose L. and Aquilina Rodriguez DeJesus. He came to America as a youth with his family, and lived in Brooklyn, New York, for many years and came to Youngstown in 2008.
Mr. DeJesus proudly served in the U.S. Army during the period after World War II, and was a retired factory worker.
Papi was of the Catholic faith.
His wife, Paula DeJesus, whom he married in 1960, passed away July 19, 2000.
Jose was the father of nine children, five of which live in the area, Paula DeJesus, Aquilina DeJesus, Jose Torres, Marsha Torres, and Anthony DeJesus. He also leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, a son, and several brothers and sisters, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Family and friends may also call from 11:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, June 14, at the funeral home, where funeral services will take place at noon.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
