John Robert Remick

CLEARWATER, FLA. - John Robert Remick, 94, formerly of Canfield, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, in Clearwater.

Born March 25, 1923, in Youngstown, “Bob,” as he was known to family and friends, grew up in Youngstown and graduated from South High School in 1941.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army and also attended Westminster College.

Bob sang in various church choirs and also played trombone and violin. He was a  very active member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Youngstown, and served on the church council and as an elder.

Bob retired in 1987 from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. He and his wife, Ruth, then moved to Clearwater where Bob was an active member of First Lutheran Church and where he sang in the church choir well into his late-80s.

He enjoyed baseball and corresponding to all through typewritten letters, which he loved.

Mr. Remick is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Bill) Hoffman of Tampa, Fla.; sons, John (Stella) Remick and Arthur (Jennifer) Remick, each of Poland; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ruth, and his eldest son Robert Remick.

Family and friends may call Saturday Jan. 13, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N Meridian Rd, Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown.
