YOUNGSTOWN - John R. Cintala, 82, of the city’s west side, passed away Thursday afternoon, Nov. 5, 2015, at Assumption Village.
John was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Susan Kasparian Cintala, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1952 graduate of Chaney High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. After his honorable discharge from the military, he became a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Boardman, retiring in 1990 after 34 years.
Mr. Cintala was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, and he collected old movies. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
John leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Louise A. Hess Cintala, whom he married Oct. 5, 1957; his son, Robert Cintala of Westerville; three daughters, Susan (James) Haavisto of Massillon, Donna (James) Dahman of Canfield, and Beverly (Patrick) McBee of Canfield; 11 grandchildren, J.D., Jessica, Elizabeth, Sarah, Michael, James III, Paul, Kelly, Melissa, Dillon, and Katelynn; a great-grandson, Isaiah; and a sister, Mary Matthews of Euclid.
Two sisters, Ann Hudak and Helen Dzurnak, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 North Meridian Road, Youngstown.
Family and friends may also call from 9:30 to 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the funeral home, where funeral services will take place at 10 a.m.
Committal services with military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.
