YOUNGSTOWN- James R. Hagerty, 60, of the city's west side, passed away Monday night, November 9, 2015, at his home with his family by his side.

James was born December 20, 1954, in Youngstown, a son of the late Harold and Argatha Emery Hagerty, and was a lifelong area resident.

Jim graduated from East High School in 1972 and proudly served in the United States Army and Army Reserves during the Vietnam era.

James worked as an LPN at Omni Manor Nursing Home for 20 plus years and more recently was employed at Browning Ferris Industries (BFI).

In his younger years he was a member of the former St. Paul Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg.

Jim enjoyed coaching his sons in baseball and football and filming the Chaney High School baseball and football games. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He and his wife were foster parents who cared for more than one hundred children during the past 12 years.

Jim leaves his wife, Joann M. Rogers Hagerty, whom he married May 3, 1980; four sons, Jason (Nicole) Hagerty of Boardman, James Hagerty Jr. (Jodi Anderson) of Austintown, Daniel (Erin) Hagerty of Boardman, and Tanner Hagerty at home; eight grandchildren, Holly Ann, Hannah, Bryanna, JJ, Daniel Jr., Kayleigh, Aiden, and Jacob; a brother, Harold Jr. (Debbie) Hagerty of Youngstown; and two sisters, Dolores (Donald) Bobovnick of Canfield and Mary Lou (Richard) Hlinka of Youngstown.

A brother, U.S. Army Specialist 4th Class Patrick Michael Hagerty was killed in action in Vietnam. A brother, Robert A. Hagerty and three sisters, Dora Garcar, Anna Mayer and Kathleen Hagerty, also preceded Jim in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, Ohio, where a funeral service will take place at 7 p.m.
