Gertrude K. Galich
May 19, 2016AUSTINTOWN - Gertrude K. Galich passed away peacefully Thursday evening, May 19, 2016, following a brief illness, at Hampton Woods in Poland.
Gertrude was born in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Sarah Miller Ambert, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a graduate of Chaney High School and worked as a ward clerk for many years at the former Southside Hospital in Youngstown.
Mrs. Galich was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman.
She was a former Miss Youngstown, and a member of the Saxon Club. Gertie belonged to numerous social organizations and greatly enjoyed playing cards with her dear friends.
Gertrude leaves a son, Dr. John W. (Laurel Miller) Galich Jr. of Waxhaw, N. Carolina; a daughter, Joan (Barry) Brubaker of Franklin, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Susan (Clarke) Oldham; and two great-granddaughters, Emily and Caroline Oldham.
A brother, John H. Ambert; a grandson, David Brubaker; and her former husband, John W. Galich Sr., preceded Gertrude in death.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, May 25, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Dr., Boardman, where funeral services will follow at noon.
Inurnment will take place at Tod Homestead Cemetery Columbarium at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Gertrude’s family suggests memorial contributions be made in her name to Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Dr., Boardman, Ohio 44512; or to the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, Ohio 44509.
