NORTH LIMA – George Robert Barton, 96, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at The Assumption Village after a long and fulfilling life.

George was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Girard, a son of the late George and Marvella Payne Barton, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1938 graduate of Girard High School where he lettered in football and basketball, and where he met the love of his life, Julia Parilla, whom he married March 23, 1939.

Mr. Barton served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was trained to electrically-wire guns on fighter planes, which inspired him to spend a lifetime in the electrical field.

Starting as an apprentice, George became a journeyman electrician and later advanced to supervisor, and then to estimator with Beil Electric.

Mr. Barton was a strong union man, and was in charge of the electrician’s apprenticeship training program.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing gardening and reading. George was a member of the Girard Liberty Rotary, the IBEW Lodge 64, and the BPOE Elks of Girard.

Mr. Barton leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Dr. Robert Barton; three grandchildren, Robert P. Barton, Dr. Daniel (Shelly) Barton, and Catherine (Sean) Stallbaum; nine great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alex, and Sydney Barton, Quinn, Ian, and Griffin Barton, and Tyler, Samuel, and Riley Stallbaum; a daughter-in-law, Rose Barton; three step-grandchildren, Miles (Donna) Webb, John (Betty) Webb, and Helen (Jeff) Mucci; four step-great-grandchildren, Franchesca and Enrico Mucci, Miles (Jessie) Webb III, Jessie Webb; and two step-great-great-grandchildren, Hunter and Brylee Webb.

The great legacy of his life was his family, and George will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Private funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Poland. Interment took place at Girard City Cemetery where George was laid to rest next to his wife.

In lieu of flowers, George’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
