STRUTHERS - George R. Babinchak Sr., 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday morning, Nov. 6, 2015, at Maplecrest Nursing Home.
George was born March 20, 1938, in Youngstown, a son of the late George and Ann Bindas Babinchak, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1955 graduate of Wilson High School, and served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He worked for 30 years for United Engineering, retiring in 1985, then later worked for Space Craft and for Topps Market.
Mr. Babinchak was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Youngstown, where he served on the parish council, and he was a bingo worker at the former Our Lady of Hungary Church in Youngstown.
A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, George thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will always be remembered for the love that he shared with his family
George leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Joan V. Pappagallo Babinchak, whom he married June 20, 1959; his son, George R. Jr. (Leslie) Babinchak of Austintown; six grandchildren, Robby (Jenn) Babinchak, Mandy Babinchak, Katie (Josh) Pearson, Eric (Jada) Landgraver, Brian (Heather) Landgraver, and Jaime (Will) Guthrie; 10 great-grandchildren, Cade, Kenley, Cooper, Gavin, Liam, Eric, Evan, Logan, Deacon, and Londyn; a brother, John (Elaine) Babinchak of Summerville, South Carolina; a sister, Carole Price of Youngstown; a son-in-law, Mike Landgraver of Austintown; and many extended family members.
His daughter, Deborah Landgraver, passed away Oct. 11, 2015.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Family and friends may also call from 10 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m.
Committal services with military honors will follow at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s name to the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Elevator Fund, 1429 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, OH 44509.
