GIRARD - Gary N. Bass, Sr., 52, passed away peacefully in his home, Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
Gary was born in Youngstown to Kane and Jan Lynn Bass on July 26, 1965. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1983 and worked as a welder all his life.
Gary leaves his wife of 30 years, Joyce Mikulich Bass; their three sons, Gary (Kaylyn) Bass, Jr., of Cleveland, Garrett Bass (girlfriend, Anna Patoray) of Girard, and Gregory Bass (girlfriend, Joon Kim) of Girard; two brothers, Frank (Carol) Bass of Jacksonville, N.C. and Terry (Karen) Bass of Poland; a sister, Tina (Dave) Pekarcik of Boardman; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; a beloved dog, Juna; two grand-dogs, Luna and Iroh; a grand-snake, Nagini.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Kane Bass; his mother, Jan Filipcich; and his step-father, Tom Filipcich.
Gary was a quiet man with a quick sense of humor, and preferred no-nonsense things like fishing, shooting pool, Converse high-tops, and black coffee. He understood that family is the most important thing in life, and that family can include so much more than blood relatives; his children grew up calling Gary's friends "uncles," and he referred to his sons' girlfriends as his daughters. Gary was a truly good man, husband, and father who would do anything for those he loved.
The world would be worse off without Gary if it were not for the fact that he did such an amazing job of instilling his kindness, honesty, and work ethic into his sons.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, April 23, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard, where funeral services will follow at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary’s name to A New Lease on Life (animal shelter), 2773 Midlothian Blvd., Struthers, OH 44471.
