YOUNGSTOWN - Emily Stride, 93, of the city’s west side, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday morning, Nov. 21, 2017, with family by her side.

Emily was born Oct. 19, 1924, in Washington, Pa., and came to this area as a child with the Duran family, who raised her.

She was a graduate of Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, and was a homemaker who also worked outside the home for Judge Woodside, and for Home Savings & Loan as a bank teller.

Emily was a member of St. Brendan Church in Youngstown. She loved to cook and bake, was an enthusiastic “coupon cutter,” and thoroughly enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Stride loved to travel, and she and her family traveled to most of the U.S. States. In her later years, she and her husband visited many countries in Europe and Latin America.

Emily’s beloved husband of 58 years, Edward J. Stride, passed away Feb. 8, 2008.

She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, six children, James Stride of Youngstown, Gerald Stride of Austintown, John (Mary Beth) Stride of Poland, Edward Stride (Eugene O’Brien) of Liberty Township, Jeanne Stride (John Maley) of Lordstown, and Kathleen (Anthony) Siracuse of East Palestine; six grandchildren; a sister, Bertha (Ernie) Wade of Palm Coast, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Velma Shuba of Erie, Pa.

Besides her husband, a brother, Henry Shuba, is deceased.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 11 a.m.

Committal services will follow the funeral home services at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Emily will be laid to rest next to her husband.
