YOUNGSTOWN - Emanuel “Bob” Giovanni, 92, of the city’s west side, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Aug. 29, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Emanuel, who was known to all as “Bob,” was born in Youngstown on Feb. 18, 1924, a son of the late John and Theresa Giovanni, and was a lifelong area resident.

He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Wells, Nevada, in 1940, and subsequently proudly served for three years in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the 15th Air Force in Europe during World War II.

Mr. Giovanni worked for 35 years for U.S. Steel at the Ohio Works as a diesel crane operator, retiring in 1978.

Bob was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown, and was a member of the former Sam Camen Center, where he sat on the board of directors. Active throughout his life, he was an avid bowler and golfer up until he was almost 90 years of age.

Mr. Giovanni’s wife of nearly 66 years, Eleanor Jean Lipjanic Giovanni, whom he married Sept. 6, 1947, passed away Aug. 12, 2013.

He leaves three children, Robert (Sherry) Giovanni of Lowellville, William (Connie) Giovanni of Youngstown, and Theresa “Terri” (Al) Luckino of Crowley, Texas; five grandchildren, Michelle Giovanni, Robert Giovanni Jr., Angie Reese, Krista Latham, and Audra Simpson; nine great-grandchildren, Richard, Maizie, Skylar, Marina, Lukas, Riley, Jax, Robert III, and Eleanor; and a sister, Marian (Richard) Grate of North Lima.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Joseph, August, Gabriel. Daniel, John, and Samuel Giovanni, and five sisters, Libertina Pandone, Della Moore, Edith Dietz, Lydia Lavery, and an infant sister.

Private services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 31,, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Interment with military honors followed at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Bob was laid to rest next to his wife.

Bob’s family thanks the caring staff at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, for the kindness shown and care given during Bob’s final days.
