AUSTINTOWN - Eleanor D. Bryer, 87, formerly of Youngstown’s west side, passed away Thursday evening, May 5, 2016, at Humility House, surrounded by her loving family.

Eleanor was born Sept. 5, 1928, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Simon and Mary Kuzma, and was a lifelong area resident.

Eleanor was a 1946 graduate of Chaney High School. She worked as a secretary and receptionist for various companies in the area, including Aid for the Aged Agency, Ohio Chair, YELP Service, and the Finance System Agency. She was also employed as a teller at Mahoning National Bank and at First Federal Bank.

Mrs. Bryer was very active in many clubs and organizations. She was Captain of the Civil Air Patrol, an officer with Y-Alpha of the YWCA, an elector of the YWCA of Youngstown, president of the Junior Businesswomen’s Club of the YWCA, and was president of the Staff Club.

She enjoyed music, playing bingo, spending time outdoors in the sunshine, and spending time with family. She especially had a great fondness for her pet dogs, “Blue” and “Storm.” 

Eleanor was a good, kind, and loving person who touched many lives, and she will live in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Mrs. Bryer was a lifelong member of the now Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown.

Eleanor leaves her beloved sister, Mary Scurti; her husband, Lawrence “Larry” Bryer; three nephews, Gary (Debra) Scurti, Patrick (Tara) Scurti, and Ronald Scurti; two nieces, Sandra (Glenn) Anderson and Laura (Timothy) Mulligan; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, May 9, and Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home, and will continue at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 613 N. Lakeview Ave., Youngstown.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Eleanor’s family extends its gratitude to the staff at Humility House for the exceptional care given to Mrs. Bryer. The kindness and compassion shown were a blessing to Eleanor and her family.
