CANFIELD - Dorothy B. Tranovich, 91, passed away early Friday morning, March 3, 2017, at Hospice House, joining her loving and beloved husband, Peter, in eternal rest.

Dorothy was born July 25, 1925, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Jacob Hack and Mary Flannigan Hack.

After high school, Dorothy moved to Pittsburgh, and lived with her aunt while working for the Pittsburgh Rail Company. Dorothy later moved back to Youngstown where she met the love of her life, Peter Tranovich. The couple wed Feb. 4, 1950, and were blessed with 60 years of marriage before Peter’s death in 2010. They made their home on North Maryland Avenue in Youngstown until 1960, when they moved to Hood Street in Austintown. In 2014, Dorothy moved to The Inn at Ironwood assisted living facility, in Canfield.

Mrs. Tranovich worked a few jobs while raising her family, but her favorite (and her children’s) was at Houser’s Bakery in Austintown. A loving homemaker and wife, she loved to sew, crochet, bake, and was an excellent cook when her husband would let her, (note: why wouldn’t her husband let her?) and she was famous for her rhubarb pie and Christmas cookies.

Dorothy and Peter were active members of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown, where they were members of the Rosary Society and The Golden Pillars.

Dorothy will be sadly missed by her family: her sons, David (Mary Jane) Tranovich of Canfield, Kenneth (Theresa) Tranovich of Austintown, and Jerry (Sonja) Tranovich of Niles; five grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda) Tranovich of Canfield, Eric (Leslie) Tranovich of Salem, Christopher (Deborah) Tranovich of Austintown, Erin (Michael) Gentry of Youngstown, and Jennifer (Jan) Tranovich of Girard; four great-grandchildren, Julian, Mikaela, Nina and Olivia; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, a brother, Phillip Hack of Pittsburgh; a sister, Anna Marie Borelli of Spring Valley, Calif.; and a brother, Regis Hack of Youngstown, preceded her in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., today, Sunday, March 5, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m., Monday at the funeral home, and will continue at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at the parish cemetery on South Schenley Avenue, where Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.

Dorothy’s family extends its sincere gratitude to the wonderful, caring staff at The Inn at Ironwood, for the kindness shown and care given to Mrs. Tranovich.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made in Dorothy’s name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, OH 44514, for the remarkable care and attention she received while under hospice care.
