STRUTHERS - Chester A. DeMart, 69, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, Nov. 16, 2016, at University Hospitals Richmond Medical Center in Richmond Heights.

Chester, who was known to all as “Chet,” was born June 6, 1947, in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Rose Musolino DeMart, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1965 graduate of East High School and attended Youngstown State University.

Mr. DeMart had an interesting and varied work history, working for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, as a truck driver for Falcon Transit, and as an instructor for TDDS. He was a recruiter for the New Castle School of Trades, and he was the Safety Service Director for the City of Struthers. Chet was also a pyrotechnic technician for Zambelli Fireworks for over 20 years, traveling the country with his sons, and performed shows which included the famous “Thunder Over Louisville” show that precedes the Kentucky Derby each year.

Chet was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Nicholas Church in Struthers, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and volunteered at the annual parish festival. He was also involved with the Habitat for Humanity.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, coaching baseball and softball, gardening, and cooking. He also enjoyed Italian music, especially “Serenada Italia,” and he enjoyed spending time with his family and loved being a “Papa.”

Chet leaves his wife of 46 years, Carol J. Wroblewski DeMart, whom he married May 30, 1970; five children, Anthony (Holly) DeMart of Lowellville, Gina (Michael) Kraus of Beachwood, Jonathan (Nikki) DeMart of Canfield, Joya (Jason) Flowers of Parma Heights, and Michael DeMart of Lakewood; two grandchildren, Gianna and Julian Kraus; a brother, John DeMart; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A brother, Anthony DeMart, is deceased.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home, and will continue at 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers.
