AUSTINTOWN - Catherine Hnatiw, 99, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, April 6, 2017, at her home following a long and fulfilling life, just six days short of her 100th birthday.

Catherine was born April 12, 1917, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Metro and Ann Pusak Borovitcky, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a graduate of Chaney High School and worked at the Mahoning County Courthouse before marrying her husband and dedicating her adult life to raising and caring for her family.

Mrs. Hnatiw was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she volunteered for many church activities. 
        
Catherine’s beloved husband of nearly 69 years, Charles Hnatiw, whom she married Aug. 10, 1940, passed away Aug. 3, 2009.

She leaves a daughter, Patricia Hnatiw of Austintown; two granddaughters, Anastasia (Robert) Huyett and Catherine Chovan, both of Seattle; and her nieces and nephews, Peter (Bonnie) Borovitcky, Gary (Debbie) Borovitcky, Karen (Rod) Scenna, Robert (Loretta) Borovitcky, Diane (James) Boehmer, Debbie, Donna, and Terry Borovitcky, Stephen (Patty) Borovitcky, Michael (Sherry) Borovitcky, Annie Borovitcky, Charlotte (Casey) Lakota, Delbert (Debbie) Holdash, Anastasia (Robert) Yozwiak, Robert Naberezny, Anthony (Helen) Fusco, Robert (Rita) Fusco, Chuck Shellogg, Shirley (Edward) Edwards, and Mary Ann Komara.

Besides her husband, a daughter, Carol Ann Chovan; a son-in-law, Joseph Chovan; five brothers, Michael, Peter, John, Stephen, and Paul Borovitcky; and two sisters, Mary Holdash and Stella Naberezny, preceded her in death.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 9, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a prayer service will take place at 3:30 p.m.

Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m., Monday, April 10, at the funeral home, and will continue at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, on the northeast corner of Kirk and Raccoon Roads in Austintown, where funeral services will take place at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Catherine will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
