CANFIELD - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, April 11, officiated by Rev. John Keehner, at St. Christine Church, preceded by a 12:15 p.m. prayer service at Kinnick Funeral Home, both in Youngstown, for Carol L. Merdich, 70, who passed away Thursday evening, April 6, 2017, with her family by her side.

Carol was born Carol L. Warchol on Oct. 12, 1946, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Thomas and Anne Farnic Warchol, and was a lifelong area resident.

Following graduation in 1963 from Cardinal Mooney High School, she was employed as a secretary at Parsons Insurance Agency and then as an account clerk at GMAC. After the birth of her first son in 1970, she began her most favorite “career” as a homemaker and mother. She was famous in her westside Bears Den neighborhood for her cooking skills, which produced wonderful kolachi, pirohy, stuffed cabbage, and traditional holiday bread and cream puffs.

In 1985, she and her husband began T.P.I. Photo Lab, where she served as company president until her recent illness.

She was very involved in the Kirkmere School PTA, Mill Creek Junior Baseball League, and Chaney and Ursuline High Schools' baseball programs. One of her greatest joys was watching her sons and grandchildren in all of their sports activities, never missing a game. She looked forward to her monthly Bunco games with her Park Harbour neighbors. She also enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, yard work, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Carol married Eugene G. “Gene” Merdich on Aug. 27, 1966, at St. Stanislaus Church in Youngstown, and together they raised two sons, Chris (Tina) Merdich of Boardman and Dennis (Richele) Merdich of Youngstown. She was the proud grandmother of Michael and David Merdich, and of Greg and Katie Merdich. Mrs. Merdich also leaves a sister-in-law, Dolores Wargo; a cousin, Barbara Jean (Bill) Thomas; a sister-in-law, Pam (Gene) McClafferty; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Wargo.

Family and friends may pay their respects Monday, April 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s name to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
