AUSTINTOWN - Barbara S. “Bobbie” Balint, 73, passed away early Saturday morning, June 11, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown following a lengthy illness.

Barbara was born Nov. 14, 1942, in Coplay, Pa., a daughter of the late Adolph Jr. and Barbara “Bertha” Szoke Sommers, and came to this area in her early twenties.

She was a 1960 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School in Pennsylvania and later attended Kent State University.

Bobbie worked at Western Electric in Allentown before coming to Ohio, and dedicated the remainder of her adult life to raising and caring for her family. She later worked as a library clerk, retiring from the Austintown Public Library in September of 2006.

Mrs. Balint was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown, and was part of a bible study group called the “Bible Babes.”

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Bobbie was a sports enthusiast and she loved the time she spent with her family and friends.

Bobbie is survived by her husband of 48 years, John Balint, whom she married Sept. 2, 1967; four sons, John (Mylinda) Balint of Saline, Mich., Michael (Britte) Balint of Woonsocket, R.I., Matthew (Shay) Balint of Brooklyn, New York, and Mark Balint of Denver; three grandchildren, Lindsay, Bethany, and Ian Balint; a sister, Carolyn (Ray) Lipsky; a niece and two nephews, Sharon Steele, Scott Mauer, and Raymond Lipsky; and two great-nieces and a great-nephew, Sara Steele, Vivian Lipsky, and J.D. Lipsky.

A sister, Genevieve Mauer and an infant brother, Richard Sommers, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown. 

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, June 16, the funeral home, and will continue at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Norquest Boulevard.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, in Bobbie's name.
