GIRARD - Angelo J. DelGenio, 93, passed away Tuesday evening, Oct. 4, 2016, at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center, with his family by his side, following a long and fulfilling life.

Angelo was born May 22, 1923, in Youngstown, a son of the late Thomas and Rose Schettino Venzio DelGenio, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1942 graduate of Girard High School and proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Wileman in the South Pacific during World War II.

Angelo worked for 40 years for U.S. Steel at the McDonald Works, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard, where he worked the bingo games.

Mr. DelGenio was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Girard Council No. 2935; was a  member of the American Legion, Post No. 235; and was a member of D.E.S.A.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, playing cards, and going to casinos. Angelo loved vacations with his family, and he enjoyed the time he spent with them, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren

His wife of nearly 69 years, Elizabeth A. Palmer DelGenio, whom he married June 1, 1946, passed away May 25, 2015.

Mr. DelGenio leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Thomas (Rose) DelGenio of Venice, Fla. and Anthony (Sue) DelGenio of Liberty Township; two daughters, Carole (Dan) Moadus of Girard and Patricia DelGenio of Girard, with whom he made his home; seven grandsons, Christopher, James, Tom, and John DelGenio, Matthew Miles, and Wyatt and Elliott Moadus; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Dominic, Gabriella, Katie, and Kara; two brothers, Sam DelGenio and Tom (Florence) DelGenio; a sister, Josephine (Leo) Bakes; four sisters-in-law, Priscilla Kordic, Josephine Rossi, Louise (Frank) Martin, and Gloria Dutton; and many extended family members and friends.

Besides his wife, a sister, Angelina DelGenio, and two brothers, Frank and John DelGenio, preceded Angelo in death.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State Street, Girard.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at the funeral home, and will continue at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main Street, Girard.

A committal service with military honors will follow at Girard City Cemetery where Angelo will be laid to rest next to his wife.

Mr. DelGenio’s family would like to thank Dr. Daniel P. Barton; Dr. Patsy Buccino; the staff at the 3NW nurses station; Warren Dialysis; and Park Vista 2nd Floor Rehab, for the kindness shown and care given to Angelo and his family during the time he was under their care.
