GIRARD - Amy Holland, 92, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 28, 2017, at Heritage Manor in Youngstown with her family by her side.

Amy was born Aug. 28, 1924, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Andrew and Evelyn Louise Gillespie Douglass. She grew up on the city’s south side, attended St. Patrick School, and graduated from South High School.

She married the late John “Bud” Holland in September of 1951, and they remained a loving couple until his death in 1994.

Mrs. Holland spent her early years in sales until raising her family became her priority. Amy was considered a stay-at-home mom but was anything but “stay-at-home.” She was very active in St. Rose Parish, where she worked for many years preparing meals for the priests. She was active in Catholic Women’s Club, and helped with the yearly festival and fundraisers. Amy became a school crossing guard and loved to tell stories about her “little darlings.” One of her biggest joys came from her many years of playing cards with her special group of ladies. They played together for over 40 years and became lifelong “sisters.” An exceptional baker, Amy’s phenomenal baked goods were loved by many.

Amy is survived by four children, her daughters Collette (Karen Brooker) Johns of Euclid and Jeanne (Robin) Vincer of Vienna; her sons John “Ted” (Renee) Holland of Youngstown and Doug (Lynnette) Holland of Girard, with whom she made her home for several years (“There was no greater gift than these last years spent living together; although peppered with frustration we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.”); and a sister, Mary Lou Demarco of Canfield. Amy will be missed by her grandchildren, Ian Johns of Missouri, Leah (Jim) Curie of Wooster, Derek (Melissia) Johns of Wooster, Dr. Katie (Scott) Vincer-Sears of Pickerington, Luke (Dr. Christina) Vincer of Brecksville, and Jaime and Michael Kravitz of Cleveland. Amy was also blessed with great-grandchildren who were fortunate enough to know her love, and leaves Colton and Afton Brown, Madyson Johns, and Scotty, Stella and John Sears and Luke Vincer.

Besides her husband, Amy was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine; her brothers, Neal and Andrew Douglass; and her best friend and sister-in-law, Madge Douglass.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at St. Patrick Church, 1400 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown.

In lieu of flowers, Amy’s family requests that donations be made to Emmanuel House in Girard; to Heritage Manor; or to the Girard Free Library.

Amy’s family also wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Manor for the excellent care and comfort provided during Mrs. Holland’s stay.
